Nudity and Art – What’s the big deal?

Nudity And Art – In the modern world, nudity is among the few things left with actual power. This really is not some new, modern idea disperse by art schools, but one that is used for centuries by the great masters to shock and awe those that beheld the great thing about the nude human form.

By far the best-known bit of bare art in the world is David by Renaissance master Michelangelo. Weighing 6 short tons and cut from just one piece of marble, it depicts the biblical David as he prepares to fight Goliath.
Michelangelo’s Naked Sculpture Of lived in the town of Florence for centuries, symbolizing the freedom of the Florentine city-state and defiance of Rome. Today it lives in the Accademia Gallery in Florence. Like many works of the Renaissance masters, David was censored for time by reactionaries in the Catholic Church, with strategically-placed plaster or plants covering up David’s genitals.
The Venus de Milo, crafted by Alexandros of Antioch, is a piece of Greek artwork depicting a woman who’s nude in the waist-up. While she originally had arms, they were broken off at some point and lost to the sands of time. While definitely a nicely-crafted bit of artwork, its popularity comes partly from an active propaganda effort by the French government exalting what an important and amazing piece of artwork it was.
